DescriptionFile containing press cuttings, correspondence and photographs relating to the Misneach hunger-strike in Easter 1966, to highlight the failure of governments to uphold the ideals of 1916. Includes copies of a leaflet entitled “Ar Céalacan, Ar Stailc Ocrais: in agaidh na nOcastóirí”, outlining the objectives of the hunger strikers. Also draft of letter from Pádraig Ó Mathúna to the Director General of RTÉ complaining that the Hunger Strike in Dublin has received no coverage (14 April 1966). Also letters from Bryan MacMahon (related by marriage to P Ó Mathúna) – commenting that there would be a lot of hard questions asked at a proposed meeting of the Language Free Movement in Listowel that evening (22 Nov 1966). Also letter from Seán Stafford in Galway thanking him for the salmon flies and writing “Chuireas an sreangscéal ag lucht an stailce agus fuaireas litir dheas ó Shéamas Ruiséil”. Also letter from Séamus Ruiséil, who was one of the hunger-strikers, stating that they were not weak and listless as reported in the newspapers and that their spirit was very strong (14 April 1966). Also nine black and white photographs of a march to Leinster House in support of the Hunger Strike.
