TitleStatement issued by the Irish Republican Publicity Bureau.
DescriptionStatement issued by the Irish Republican Publicity Bureau. The statement which was issued on behalf of the bureau by J. McGarritty centres on the I.R.A. campaign in 'The Six Counties' and deals at length with the election of Tom Mitchell in the Mid-Ulster seat at Westminster elections. Mitchell who was serving a sentence for his involvement in a raid an Army Barracks in Omagh in 1954 was forced to forfeit his seat because he was a 'felon'. The statement stresses the popular support for the I.R.A. campaign on the basis of Mitchell's electoral success. The statement also criticizes the Irish authorities accusing them of using 'the 26-County police force and army in an all-out attempt to prevent the men of All-Ireland from going to the assistance of our Northern brothers, and enforcing the full rigours of coercion to protect the British Occupation Forces and prevent the people of the North from gaining their freedom.'
