TitleFile of documents containing and regarding the 'first banking message', so-called by The Observer on 5 December 1993.
DescriptionFile of documents containing and regarding the 'first banking message', so-called by The Observer on 5 December 1993. Including handwritten draft by [Brendan Duddy] and copies of telefaxed message from [British government to Sinn Féin], requesting a meeting in London with 'Mr Brown', seeking reassurance that their 9-paragraph document was received favourably. (Various captions by [Éamonn Downey] contextualising the telefax. Cf. interview with Downey where he identifies the handwritten document as a draft, and supplies that 'Mr Brown' is Brendan Duddy. The British do not now acknowledge sending that telefax. 'Banking message' so-called maybe because one of Duddy's bank manager's actual name Campbell replicates Duddy's code-names for two republicans.)
